The Peak District National Park is home to an amazingly diverse range of landscape, manna from heaven for walkers and photographers alike. From the rugged gritstone edges to the sweeping rivers, calm lakes and reservoirs. Wherever, and pretty much whenever you walk in the Derbyshire countryside or specifically in the Peak District National Park itself you can be assured the tranquility to take a long deep breath as you escape the madness.
Obviously The Bridge Inn and The Devonshire Arms make for excellent resting points given their locations in the heart of some of the best walking territory the Peak District has to offer.
From the grandeur of Chatsworth and its manicured grounds next door to The Devonshire Arms to the rugged edges of Curbar, Froggatt and Baslow rising above The Bridge Inn, I am frequently reminded to ask myself - how lucky are we?
Highland Cows, Deer and Kingfishers are just a snap shot of the wildlife we live with as all we have to do is walk out of our door. Dogs are welcome in both pubs including in the 11 ensuite bedrooms at The Devonshire Arms which affords the perfect base to explore after a hearty and most excellent breakfast.
Thanks to the hard work of Baslow & Bubnell Parish Council; who have professionally curated 6 walks stretching out in each compass direction from The Devonshire Arms; we can now share the walks us locals know with our guests. Walks stretching from 3.5 miles up to 8 miles they take in hills and dales and give walkers all the information they could possibly need. A brilliant job.
In addition the Parish Council have created:
a history walk, of points of historical interest around the village which is available from their website
a downloadable treasure hunt for families around the village - again available online with a modest charge.
Huge thanks to the Baslow & Bubnell Parish Council and a great example of the work a Parish Council should be doing to add value to locals and visitors alike.
These 6 walks are all available from the website in PDF format - happy walking and we hope to see you for a pint or a glass of excellent wine soon.
Have a great weekend
